Sample: $120 feeds 1 children for a year

Backpack 4 Brainiacs raised $1100, enough to feed 9 kids for a year

TORONTO, Ontario – November 23, 2015 – Meal programs look after children on the weekdays, but children need help when they go home on the weekends.

This is the gap the charity Blessing in a Back helps to fulfill. A team of five students from Corporate Communications and Public Relations postgraduate program at Centennial College hosted an event to benefit Blessings in a Backpack. The charitable organization provides backpacks full of food for children in need on the weekends. For just over 100 dollars, a child can be fed using the Blessings in a Backpack program for an entire year.

The night was a feature of “Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader” themed trivia game and raised funds and awareness for the charity. “We are so happy to see the success of this event. This money raised is going very far,” said Karen Green, from Blessing in a Backpack.

The Centennial College students chose this charity for their event because it  overlooked the need of weekend meals. “If the kids involved in these meal programs aren’t getting nutritious food at home during the weekdays, they’re probably not getting it on the weekend either. We love that Blessings in a Backpack fills that gap”, said the team of CCPR students. The event had a trivia game, a silent auction, and a raffle.

The charity fundraiser was held on Monday, Nov. 23, 2015, at Touché Restaurant and Bar, located at 669 College St. For more information, access the Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/events/914656428588115/
